As some of you have heard, Nashville has been declared in a state of emergency due to The Other Situation. There have been reports of cops clinging to treetops (squad car swept away by floodwater) and sheep swimming on I-40 -- and there still being a line at Pancake Pantry this morning. Unreal.

I'm fine, the dog's fine, the BYM's not in town (and I will kick his ass if he tries to come back before the local interstates are back above water), and my friend who visited yesterday afternoon got safely home after stopping at a hotel last night. Whew.

I did make a point of looking for the BYM's kayak paddle, there are various parts of the house now swathed in towels, and I hastily rearranged our living room this morning: there's already an inch of water in the plastic tubs where my favorite couch was yesterday. All that said, I still have power, wireless, and water, and the NYT in my driveway hasn't floated away yet. (Not going out until the dog needs to, though.)

Best stream of info (via Twitter) has been the #OtherSituation2010. Other tags include #Splashville, #Nashlantis, and #ArkBuilding101 (cf. Craigslist).

[I'm hoping this entry doesn't sound too flip. The county-wide situation is serious and sad. This is me cracking wise about sheeps and olives because you don't need to hear me rattle on about my colleague who drowned in her car a half-decade ago. (Unless you're a local idiot who's thinking of making a biscuit or burger run in this mess, in which case you need to be smacked with a broken umbrella, hard.)]
