Better check yourself, before you wreck yourself!!!

Hello there! Finally found some time to get caught up here in the ol' journal, now that I'm pleasantly stuffed full o' turkey and various side dishes, not to mention several glasses of wine, some mimosas, and a coupla beers. Ah, Thanksgiving.

I have much to be thankful for, of course, but I won't bore you with the details, other than to say I'm unspeakably grateful for my wonderful wife Elizabeth, great family, awesome friends, great pets, and a rewarding, challenging vocation/obsession with fiction writing.

And it's that last that I want to talk about for a bit here. I'm still thinking about a longer journal entry on this, one entitled "Why I Work So Hard," but that one's still percolating in the gray darkness of my brain. But here's the most recent scoop on my writing.

I hit the wall on my novel-in-a-month challenge. I was going really great, finally churning out some good words, but I just ran out of time. And it was starting to become like work, and not fun anymore. So I made it to 20,000 words, which was WAY more than I would've written otherwise this month, and I plan on continuing at a more humane pace soon.

The trick is, now, I have to decide which project to work on. The goal was to have both the paranormal romance and the SF novel about the aliens done by the end of 2002, but damn if I only have a month left now! Crrrraap! Plus I'd like to get two more stories done in that time, though I mostly want to finish the manic-depressive werewolf story. I may work on that one this weekend, so I can send it off to the Cup-A-Prose...

But for today I think I'm gonna log off, shut down the ol' computer, and go back to READING. I've been reading Black House for the past two days, and while the beginning is almost impossibly slow, it's starting to really pick up and all the details from the first 100 pages are all paying off. So that's the plan! Read until I meet Lizzie and her mom and sister for lunch, after a grueling morning of shopping on "Black Friday" along with the millions of other area masochists. Have a good one!

Now Playing:
