The light at the end of the week.

So, as part of my never-ending task of trying to organize my writing life, I'm finishing up the last few miscellaneous short projects on my plate so I can really focus on the Blackbeard novel.

Yesterday I got the Shadow Wolf story in better shape, and all that revising got me itching to fix up more short works. So I started going through various drafts and fragments and realized that none of my unfinished stories were really worth the effort of overhauling. Into the bulging "Questionable Stuff" folder they went.

All I have left are the All-Nations story and the Unplugged play/screenplay. I started messing with the Unplugged screenplay, and realized that it's almost there. Needs some tweaking, a couple revised scenes, new formatting, and it's there.

And the baseball story can wait -- that one may still become a novel yet. Because that's my new focus lately -- novels. By May I'll have 4 ready to circulate, and I actually plan on querying some agents and editors this weekend, if I have time, and if I get my writing done first.

It's nice, getting organized. It helps me see the light at the end of the tunnel, you know? And it also helps that it's almost Friday, and this crazy-ass week is almost over.

The images of war are still too much for my brain to take, all at once. Part of me is fascinated by it, by the firepower and technology and sheer brute force, while the larger part of me is sickened by the devastation those weapons will cause and probably are causing right now. Couldn't we put all that energy into exploration of space instead of blowing up each other? Can't our focus be outward, not inward? I know what I'd choose to do, but then again, I'm just a simple, curious person.

Later!

JONATHAN
Just got in this morning. Hauled me away from my rig, doing the cowboy twitch. Shaking and rattling, all the way here. Fuck if I wanted to quit. I was just getting rolling, you know?

MICKEY
First two days are worst.

JONATHAN
Ah, man. Don’t tell me that. Totally don’t need to hear that, not right now. Fuck no.

MICKEY
Your tough luck, kid.
