A note on Intracities submissions...

Well, I'm up to 15 subs, and enjoying the various short stories for the upcoming Intracities anthology. If you've sent in a story, Thanks! If you're working on one, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Just in case anyone is interested, I wanted to throw out some more details of what I'm looking for with this anthology.

Setting. This is key -- I want this to be a collection of fiction first, of course, but I also want it to be a kind of travelogue as well. Tell me about the city where YOU live. Give me the back roads and unseen places. What does it feel like to drive through your city or town? Who or what would I see on an average day?

Make it so you could not have set the story anyplace else.

Conflict. Your characters have to have some sort of problem that needs resolving, or demands some sort of change. Otherwise I'm reading a day-in-the-life, diary entry, and while that can be interesting, I want to see something more. Make the events in your story the most important days of your chracter's life.

Finally, remember the senses of wonder and mystery. Really, that's why we read. Your story should be logical, of course, but it also should have some sort of fantastic element -- you get to define what "fantastic" mean (and there are a multitude of definitions for that word).

But most of all, for this anthology, follow the guidelines. And good luck! Looking forward to your story!
