Day 16 -- the motivations of fictional ghosts

Whew -- finally managed to break out of my mini-slump and get this next scene scribbled out! I'm finding that in my 1,500-words (or more) bursts of writing that I'm almost consistently writing complete scenes. Kind of nice. It's making me end more scenes on cliffhangers, to keep me interested and excited in what's gonna happen next, and that should carry over into enthusiasm for the reader, turning those pages.

I've been a bit stuck with the motivation of my female ghost, and how to have my living characters solve the mystery and "unjustness" of her death, but I think I've started to figure it all out. That was keeping me from writing more on this current scene. But let that be a lesson -- sometimes it's best to just start writing and let yourself figure out these things on your own, instead of planning ever little detail. Have faith in your own skills.

I can't believe I'm rambling about the motivations of fictional ghosts.

That's about it for today. Can't wait to hit 50k on the novel tomorrow! I've got some catching up to do this weekend, but I'll bet I can reaching 60,000 words by the end of the day Sunday. That's my goal, anyway.

And at some point my two main characters need to hook up, as this IS a romance, after all... :)

Today's Quote:
Stay calm, she told herself, even as Stede Bonnet turned his back on Mitch and stepped closer to her. Accompanied by one final cannon blast, he pulled something from inside his overcoat. Ella couldn’t understand what it was he was showing her.

“You see,” he said, holding up his treasure for Ella to see, “what happens to those who cross Stede Bonnet.”

Ella had lifted the pistol she’d found in the sand just as she comprehended the impossible item dangling from Bonnet’s hand. He was holding the dismembered head of Edward Teach, better known in these parts as Blackbeard.

Back off, she thought, taking aim at the ghost, and drop the head.
