Itching for a good movie -- where ARE they?

Been novel-revising for most of the day, and I just can't do it anymore. My brain's fried. What I want to do is watch a good movie with Elizabeth and chill out, but due to a serious Netflix faux pas, I ended up with two discs of "Strangers With Candy" and one disc of "Reno 9-11." I realize that those shows are much, much funnier on TV, with commercial breaks, once a week, than without breaks and one after the other.

Not a lot of good movies out there, either -- any recommendations? I'd like something with some depth, like "About Schmidt" or something different, like "Fight Club," or something with just a good story, like "Bourne Identity." Films have been sucky lately. That's what I get for letting my sub to New Yorker lapse and leaving me clueless about the latest cinema.

I'm also a bit worn out because this past week was quite busy, culminating in a very fun party yesterday -- more of a get-together with our families than a baby shower. We had a great time (thanks Mom, Lori, and Katie for hosting it!), and we got an embarrassing amount of baby stuff. For some reason I always feel guilty about getting gifts, but it's easier for me knowing the goodies are going to our little guy and not me!

The best part about yesterday was talking politics with half of the crowd of folks, after most people had left (I think the other half of the crowd was hiding), and learning some fascinating facts from all sides. Though my younger brother gave up arguing too soon and went to sleep.

We also got about a fifteen photos/paintings/diplomas prepped for framing, and I'm quite excited to see how they all turn out. The frame for the art that Janet did for the final scene for "The Last of the Hand"/"The Taste of Pennies" is going to look awesome with the blue and green matting. I'm so slack -- I've had that picture for a year and a half and am only now getting around to framing it.

Okay, enough computer time -- I may have to make an emergency Blockbuster Video run! Later...

P.S. A new entry over at the Novel Blog for Dead Man's Rope. The second chapter is starting off pretty dang good, if I say so myself. I'll be making the first chapter off-limits to non-subscribers soon, probably the end of the day tomorrow. Go, read, comment! Do it now or forever hold your peace!
