Progress and sore ears

Getting into a nice routine here at the Jasper House, rising about 4:30 or 5 in the morning to revise as much of a new chapter as possible, fortified with good coffee and music.

The youngster has his first (hopefully only) ear infection, so he's chilling out with his mom right now, who's staying home with him today, otherwise I'd be hopping around getting him and me ready for the coming day (he to the babysitter, me to the day job).

Nothing is worse for the heart than hearing your child cry in pain. But Drew is pretty tough, and he doesn't cry much. He's happy to laugh and hang out, even if he's feeling bad. Hopefully this will pass, quickly. At least I get to stay home with him tomorrow.

I feel kind of bad now, working on my novel while Drew is sick, but he's sleeping. It's okay to not hold him 24 hours a day when he's sick, right? Right?

Guilt -- the parent's constant companion. Later!
