Writing in spite of the world

In spite of the grim news from New Orleans and Baghdad and pretty much the rest of the world (as Jenn noted, the news has been particularly bad lately, to the point where it's almost overwhelming), I'm still plugging away at my writing. I guess that's the best I can do -- I mean, I've donated some money to Red Cross, and I'm donating blood tonight after work.

What I'd really like to do is rent a U-Haul truck, fill it with as much bottled water as it'll hold, and drive that sucker down to New Orleans and variouus points in Mississippi and help out as many folks as I can.

Of course, I'd never be able to afford the gas... Apparently, gas stations here in NC are starting to run out of gas -- we get (used to get) a good chunk of it from the Gulf of Mexico. Should make for an interesting couple of weeks. Just yesterday it cost me $28 to fill up my Esquart, an unheard-of amount. So far... Later.
