Still chugging away

I survived the first day at the new job, and it was pretty awesome, actually. Just as I expected, this job is going to push me -- I've got a lot to learn yet about our software, which is a bit daunting, but I know it's a quality product, so it's something I can believe in.

At my previous job, I thought a good bit of the stuff they put out -- hardware and especially software -- wasn't all that hot, so it's refreshing to be writing about software that not only works, but works well and elegantly. Once our software gurus get all the bugs out of it, I think it's going to be the kind of software that people say "Damn, that's really cool."

I work with some fine people, all of them very nice, and the day flew by. I've got about four or five projects to work on, which makes me happy as a pig in a puddle of mud.

And I'm still able to get up at 4:30 (actually, it's more like 4 a.m. the last two days) and jam out some new words. It's really rolling along, and I'm starting to see how the ending is going to work, now. That's a nice feeling -- I really believe that I have to write that first draft in a condensed period of time, to keep those ideas fresh and keep myself focused and excited about what happens next. That's what keeps me getting up at 4 a.m.!

That, and the fact that I now have TWO dragons in this book! (That ought to get your attention, SarahP!).

It also helps that I do some push-ups and sit-ups as soon as I get up, followed by a couple sun salutes to get the blood flowing to my brain. Hey, don't laugh! It works!
