March totals

Just got back from depositing our checks from the closing of our old house -- the Love Shack -- yesterday and polishing off a fine, very unhealthy lunch from Snoopy's in downtown Raleigh (why thanks for asking -- had some crinkle cut fries, an eastern-NC style BBQ sandwich, and of course a hot dog w/ mustard, onions, and chili). Tomorrow I'll get back on the bandwagon with jogging and eating better. Today I just want to celebrate the end of MARCH!

What a month. I started a new job, Lizzie changed her schedule around to work only on weekends (so she could stay home w/ Drew during the week! Yay!), my new company launched their software (today!), we sold our house (to a really cool couple who I know will love the place as much as we did), we moved into our new house (the Luv Mansion, or at least the Love Two-Story), and I got accepted into the Blue Heaven workshop. Oh, and I also tried like crazy to finish my current novel.

I didn't do half-bad, either. I got myself from the start of chapter 12 to the middle of chapter 16 (four and a half chapters), from page 183 to page 255 (72 pages), and from 44,000 words to 59,000 words (15k!). Not bad for a Month from Hell.

I just finished up the last 1,000 words this morning to push me up over the 15,000 word mark for the month:

(73.9%)

It should be a piece of cake for me to finish up the last 15-20,000 words by April 15th -- that's 1,000 words a day, plus change. I'm excited about the book, now that my brain can think about it again. I wrote some pretty cool stuff during this month, which makes me feel a bit more confident in my writing skills.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that writing that first draft FAST is the only way to write a novel. For me. I've got to have something on the screen, on the page, so I can see it all taking shape.

I know I've said this before, but I've got this sense of urgency building in me as I write, because I'm getting damned interested as a reader about how the hell this story is going to end. I mean, I have a really good idea about the end itself, but I won't really know how I'll get there until I write those sections. I think I'm finally learning to trust my authorial instincts. It's only taken me HOW long...?

Ah well. Tonight, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we kick off a new month and more fun at the Love Two-Story. More photos to come, as soon as we get Internet cables spliced to our casa... Later.
