Shots

Drew and I got our flu shots today. I didn't cry. That makes one of us. Ouch!

Elizabeth and I both felt like traitors -- the nurse sorta distracted him, then she just JABBED it into his leg. He screamed. I think it was more out of surprise than anything else. Luckily, he didn't stay upset for long -- maybe 30 seconds.

I normally wouldn't get one, just because I don't really think they work, but with a new baby entering the house in less than four weeks, I figured we'd be best safe than sorry. I just hope my arm doesn't hurt like Lizzie's did... At least Drew and I got matching Daffy Duck Band-Aids.

Last night's writing group was fun, chatting face-to-face with some area writers for the first time in a LONG time. I also got some great feedback on my story, and I just have to find time to incorporate those comments.

I've been pretty excited about my choice of novel projects lately -- I decided that this year was the Year I'd Get Stuff Finished, For Good. So I'm fixing up my "urban fantasy" hodge-podge novel The Last of the Hand and chopping it down to 60,000 words, focusing on the young-adult aspects, and rewriting a lot of the chapters for my female protagonist. I have a 14-year-old main character and a 400-plus-year-old narrator for the opening section of the book -- should be fun!

(Of course, I'd be even MORE excited about all this if I hadn't just gotten a rejection from an agent who was looking at the entire manuscript of my baseball novel, but what can ya do... Live and learn, right? And try to get better... Rejections suck!)

So let me see if I can get the new chapter one of this book whipped into shape! And, I almost forgot to mention that Mr. Drew, with less than 2 months before his 3rd birthday, is up to 37 pounds (93rd percentile) and 39 inches tall (90th percentile). Our boy is 3'3"! Later...
