Fun excerpt o' the day:
None of my ancestors seemed to notice or care that the birds were fading. Nobody cared. Those were the heady times of our world, a time of intensive growth and outreach and development. Our people conquered the land and the seas, and soon they conquered the air.

After that, all that was left was to conquer one another. Even that victory did not satisfy the three who sat in judgment and power on the highest peak of our largest continent. Our triumvirate ruled from their mountain with magical windows cast onto every cardinal point of our world, never leaving their fortified home at the top of the world. They oversaw the movements of the rich and the poor, the master and servant, the leader and the follower, sniffing for the slightest hint of change or threat to their established order.
