Permission to goof off.

Well, so much for getting a first draft of this book done by May...

Instead of stressing and feeling all-around grumpy about this fact, I'm instead giving myself permission to not write, to not worry about writing, and to just goof off for a while. Sounds weird, I know, but it's been a crazy month or five. With two youngsters in the house, everything becomes a challenge, even finding time to walk the dog.

But in spite of the hectic-ness of it all, we've been getting a lot of items knocked off our ToDo list, like painting my office (still loving the Bungalow Blue, which I keep wanting to call Burgundy Blue, which of course makes no sense at all), dropping off a pile of stuff at Goodwill and the Habitat "ReStore" so the garage is organized, and starting work on my bookcases.

We were thinking about building them ourselves, with my dad's help, but I didn't want to wait, and I knew we wouldn't have the time. I found some nifty, affordable bookcases at Target, and as soon as I get my advance moolah, we're buying the other three so we can have a wall o' books in the Burgundy Blue office.

Here's the first one:

Note the old shelves, which will be "repurposed" and the baby seat in front of the new shelves... That top shelf is ear-marked as the Ego Shelf, by the way.

That one bookcase took me (with help from Drew and Mitch) about 2.5 hours. You should've seen all the packing crap and all the pieces that came with it... Only three more to assemble. Lucky me!

In other news, Mr. Mitch is starting to sleep better at night (went down at 8, up at 12:30 and 5:30, so he's stretching it out more and more), though he now has a tooth sticking through his lower gums, so that's ailing him. Drew, meanwhile, has been quite an angel, entertaining his little bro and being patient when Mitch hollers, though Drew has pretty much given up on naps in the afternoons. All of this leaves Elizabeth feeling a bit worn out, since she's home with them most days when she's not working.

Luckily, we're all heading out of town from Thursday to Saturday so we can stay with friends at... Ocracoke Island! Sweet. Cannot wait. Only two days of work left. While we're there, I'm sure I'll be able to fulfill my directive of Goofing Off. No permission needed. Later!
