'unendangering' species

A nice little article in the Smithsonian this month on endangered species that are in position to be taken off the endangered list. This news makes even Mr. Cloudy happy. The Bald Eagle was listed as endangered in 1940. The article states that "By 1963, only 417 bald eagle nesting pairs were found in the lower 48" states. Their status was upgraded to "threatened" in 1995, and today there are almost 7,700 pair in the lower 48, and they may soon be taken off the threatened list.

Going to visit a nesting area of bald eagles has been on my mental list of things I want to do. I know there are areas along the Mississipi in Wisconsin/Minnesota. So, hopefully I'll make the trip sometime soon.
