"Life is difficult."

I had just entered a comment on Randomthoughts site today about Scott Peck's book The Road Less Traveled, and now discovered that the author died Sunday.

cnn article

I remember when I read the first line of that book ("Life is difficult.") that I felt a kind of liberation. I grew up in a tradition that I felt suggested life isn't really difficult at all, once you let God handle it. But either I wouldn't or couldn't let God handle it, because it never became un-difficult. But in one sentence, Peck, had written my story, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

I still consider life difficult, but I feel a little less alienated from it because I feel less alone the more I find others who see it the same way -- at least it isn't just me effing things up, or imagining it. Well, at least if it is, there are others who feel the same.
