One time we went to a church "trunk or treat" for Halloween and the youth minister dressed up as someone who had been beheaded, complete with bloody ring around the neck.

I have to confess I don't get any fun out of dressing up in macabre fashion, nor in slasher movies, etc. And I've seen young children truly scared by some costumes, and never found it funny.

And I've never wanted to go to a haunted house. So call me the halloween scrooge.
