ninsiana my tiny beautiful life 144621 Curiosities served |
2004-03-17 8:57 PM today a coin made my day Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: happy go lucky Read/Post Comments (5) Today, it snowed like a bastard and work was super dull. Poppy and Mommy had just left to go to their accupuncturist (this really is a story in itself- the man's name is Dong Oh), when I found a penny from the Bahamas hidden like a tiny jewel in the register.
It's bright copper and reads only "ONE CENT" in tiny letters on the top. Otherwise, the whole front is taken up by a huge textured starfish. No political crap, no portraits, nothing...just a starfish. The back is even better. It shows a shield, featuring the image of a radiating sun over an old time clipper ship. This shield is flanked by a swordfish on one side and a flamingo on the other. "COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS" and "1992" are the only other words on it. There is a banner under the whole scene, but its hard to tell what its says, its so small. It looks like "Forward, Inward, Onward, Together" but that doesn't make much sense. The penny is so clean and shiny, you can almost feel the sun shining out from it. So, I started to daydream. I was in a beach chair on the sand, drinking with the swordfish and the flamingo. (They had their own beach chairs.) For beachwear, the swordfish was wearing a sailor's hat and a neckercheif, possibly a monocle. The flamingo was a bit more daring wearing only beaded necklaces and anklets. We had a fine time. This is what I do at work. God, I'm tired of snow. Alhough...this may be the lovliest coin I've ever seen. Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
