The world we're living in now can't possibly be the best of all possible worlds, to borrow from Voltaire. I could only heave a huge sigh as I read this.

I received my 2 copies of Sky Bounce (which I did the cover illustration for) in the mail and could not help reading the book immediately. It keeps pulling me along so far. Definitely a young adult (or old kid) fantasy novel, with a generous helping of romance, and a Madeleine L'engle (if I spelled that right) feel to the world- and character- building. Neato! I'm thinking of handing this to a little cousin to get their opinion. (Of course I still think of my first cousins as little even though the youngest among them is around 16.) I think it is an enjoyable book... but of course there's a likelihood that I'm biased.

In the space of an afternoon I put a wonderfully successful wind-tossed foamy sea into Lament. What I thought would be the hardest part to paint is actually the best looking part now. The painting looks 85% percent colored and complete—but that's always deceiving at this stage of painting. It always feels that the closer I get to finishing a painting, the farther completion gets, because some details have to be cleaned, or a spot may have been overlooked, or the picture is unbalanced, or the focus is in the wrong place, or a small line looks awkward, or an area needs to be "warmed"...the people who think art is easy don't know how good art is made. ;)
