Chinese New Year Eve

One of the things that accompanies Chinese New Year is the spring cleaning beforehand, an activity that only gets a big groan from me. I am not averse to regular small jobs cleaning the house, but I AM averse to undertaking a cleaning project, where, in the span of a few days, you're trying to clean every corner, wash every curtain, and all the bedlinen, carpets, floor-mats, AND laundry, shelves, knick-knacks, bathrooms, toilets, floors, doors, windows. And you've got a deadline! Do this all before Chinese New Year's Day, where it is "bad luck" to have to do any cleaning for the first few days of the year.

Sorry. As said, I'll clean, but I think it's ridiculous to do ALL this during an almost inhumane span of less than 4 days. Less ridiculous goals should be set. Either that, or all these tasks should already be undertaken at regular spans during the year.

That said, why are the neighborhood kids screaming and running outside my door? How come their parents aren't giving them chores? Why is it only mine? It's a tempting thought to just lock myself into the studio/office, though I suppose I'll have to emerge again for the reunion dinner tonight (another part of CNY, the Chinese version of Thanksgiving.)

Look! Another article on Japan's WWII amnesia. I am not deliberately looking for these, really! They're just falling into my lap.

I've also lately become the manager of a webring for RPG (role-playing game) portrait artists. There are role-players who love their games enough to want their pseudo-selves, or their characters illustrated, and are willing to engage artists to portray them. (I was one of these players, but then again, I could always handle their illustration myself.)

Lament has been added to my site. But now that it's scanned, there's another couple of spots I want to edit, which is typical of the process...

Just in time! I've just been summoned downstairs to mop the house. At 6:30 p.m. How wonderful.
