john lennon said: and so this is christmas in his not unusual sarcastic tone.
and people flocked to the store to own a copy.
and it was good, sayeth the man who takes the money at the cash register.

that was back when...late 70's? mid-seventies? hell, I dont remember, I was pretty drunk at the time.

I heard that song yesterday and I had to wonder how it became such a megahit...what with yoko squelching like a busted and battered CB radio. I realize its a relatively pretty melody, but still, it was done cheap (by today's standerds and that era's, too) cuz in my opinion the mix was shabby and it just seemed like a throw-together song. I think lennon even said in some interview or another that he did it [written, recorded, and out the door] as fast as humanly possible. musta been on some good coke. eh john?

theres a thousand or more christmas-oriented songs released every year. some suck, some become megahits. what I wonder, is what is it about happy christmas (war is over) [that is the correct title, isnt it?] that makes it stand ...no, tower above all the other christmas songs that were out then and continue to come out every year-end?

I dunno...

if you like that song, why. what is it about that song that makes you sing along, and then hum it later cuz its stuck in your head.

Im just wondering, thats all.
