According to this study noted on Making Light's Particles, 91% of all email that comes across the intartubes is spam.

Holy meat products, Batman!

I, myself, have two accounts (hotmail and gmail) that are set up soley to receive spam. I use them any time someone that wants me to register my email before I can look at their site. Oh, sure, I also get the occasional notification that my shoes or books have been shipped, but I can find those emails easy enough amongst the hundreds of spam. It's amazing, really, the amount of spam I get as a result of signing up at sites that promise to protect my privacy.

My real email address is known only to a few handfuls of people, and even fewer websites. Another spam killer, I believe, was sending nasty grams to every spammers' server and also to the FCC, to alert them, every time I received spam for about 6 months. I now get very, very little spam at my real address. Like none. In months.

Me likee.

I also get no solicitor calls at my home. None. I credit that to being on both national and state "Do Not Call" lists. I suppose it seems like I'm bragging, that the two top annoying parts of living in a super-connected world don't touch me.

I can live with that.
