Election Burnout

We have a bunch of propositions (city and local issues) to decide, along with national, state and judicial persons to vote for. The booklet of information about the propositions is about 100 pages in length, and, like most such things, is tough going.

However, there are several issues to be decided that will directly and immediately affect us, whether we vote or not, and others that will impinge on our children and grandchildren (in my case, great-grandchildren too, from the term of the bond issues).

I often wonder if other voters feel as I do, that this is a trememdous responsibility and not one to be taken lightly or left till the last minute and then hurriedly decided? I've taken to reading one or two of the sections a day and then marking the sample ballot.

Then I try to look at myself in perspective. Am I just being anal retentive? Am I kidding myself that my vote counts? Do I vote my conscience or my purse, my own short-term welfare or the greater good? What if I have no idea whatsoever whatthehell the proposition really means?

I think I'm just taking this much too seriously.
