I added my husband's last name to my own 17 years ago. I moved to my current address 13 years ago, after the Northridge earthquake.

Still, every day or two, I receive mail (snail mail) addressed to me by my previous name and the person living at my former address gives me bundles of mail weekly addressed to me at my previous residence.

The all-time winner arrived last night, when I received a letter addressed to me by my birth name, sent to me to an place where I lived over 20 years ago. The note inside wanted to know if I was interested in selling my house (it has long since been torn down for an apartment complex) at ridiculously low interest rates (variable, going stratospheric in 5 years, I'm sure).

Even if it were a legitimate solid offer, I wouldn't do business with anyone whose data was so out of date and poorly kept. I was so astonished I actually read the offer and considered (for a nanosecond) leading them on by some preposterous story. Maybe I should send offer A to company B and vice versa.

But I have better things to do.
