Watching Less Television

Several months ago we were having our patio cover replaced. The television antenna mast was supported by one of the uprights, so it had to come down when the cover was demolished.

The rebuilt patio cover was repainted finally and at long last re-roofed, but the antenna was never replaced.

Because, dear friends, during the time that we couldn't watch television we re-discovered our enjoyment in reading books in the evening after dinner.

In addition, I joined Netflix and we watch movies and television series of choice, not by default as lazy couch potatoes.

I've become very choosy about how I spend my few evening hours each week and mediocre television programs are off the radar.

The only thing I miss is the immediacy of the evening news, though during this election season that may be more of a blessing than I realize.

One other unintended effect: I am much more sensitive nowadays to the loud, hysterical hyped voices and music both on television and on the radio. The intense, rushed, pressured semi-hysterical voices and music grate on my nerves, as I have become accustomed to peace and quiet.

Peace and quiet, minding my p's and q's.
