Cat Story

I was just thinking about the time I had to capture a wild kitty whose tail had been run over and was gangrenous. Needless to say, he was insane with pain and untouchable. I found a towel that I never wanted to see again (it got dirty and bloody), tossed it over him, and with the help of a friend, bundled him up in it, like a papoose. He screamed and cried and scratched and bit, but the towel protected my hands and arms and eventually he calmed down because he couldn't move.

I warned the vet about his "attitude" and when we got to the vet's office, his assistants came out to the car with armor and protective mitts and face masks. Looked like hockey goalies.

Butterscotch (who was not wild after all, just hurt and frightened) lived many long and loving years with me after that, though with his tail bobbed short, he occasionally lost his balance and fell off things. Once, off the countertop and splash! into the dog water dish. Can you say "annoyed"?
