Just got home from the Kaiser ER. One of my employees--and a friend--started having dizzy/fainting spells. We called 911. She went to Kaiser ER; I stayed with her until her partner arrived.

I really hope she's OK. Now N's on the phone....

Later...Oh, my aching body, I'm so tired. I think worry tires you out the most. I'm hoping she has something easy to fix, like an electrolyte imbalance, and not something awful like failing kidneys.

It's times like this, I wish I could do something and not feel so helpless. All I could do was hold her hand, pat her shoulder, and in between episodes of whatever-it-is, try to amuse her with comforting words and small talk.

The nurses were really great. Every one of them deserves a hero badge. How do they do it, being kind and patient and careful with every patient, no matter how difficult?

Unsung heroes. They walk among us.
