Too Tired to Read

Worked a 12.5 hour day--one of those days when there's one crisis after another, not from any leader's lack of foresight, but just the world going to hell in a handbasket. (I have got to find that manufacturer of handbaskets and put them out of business).

I was fine while I was at work, putting out the fires as quickly as they burst into flame, multitasking with telephones, written messages, computer searches all in a seemingly infinite queue to my desk. Focused and effective.

Finally, I could shut down the computer and take my poor tired posterior home. That trip home was the hardest part of the afternoon. I almost rear ended two cars, just because I could not focus. Not focus the eyes; focus the attention. The adrenaline from the near misses kept me alert until I reached Topanga Canyon; from there it was just another mile or so and I took it slow and easy.

I'm really too old for these marathon days (unusual for me to feel my age). I still do the 8 hour days just fine with plenty of energy left at the end of the day to do an errand or two on the way home, bring stuff in from the car, make dinner, take care of the cats and the dishes, check snail mail and email, and relax before bed (read or watch a video).

Tonight all I could do was grab some greasy fried chicken on my way home (I know I'm going to regret it later) and slump in front of this computer to check my email, write a quick journal entry, and collapse into bed.

I suppose I should change my clothes and brush my teeth first.
