Tear Down

After going to the opthamalogist in the afternoon yesterday, I headed home, both anxious and excited to see what the roofers had done.

They had torn off the old roof. There was no decking on the roof (it's probably 50 years old), so all that exists right now between my ceiling and the great outdoors is the ridge beam and rafters. Decking goes on today after the fascia is removed and replaced. The temps will be in the mid-90's, so I put water in the refrigerator for the workers. Steep pitched roof makes it even harder for them.

I'm so glad that both tenants have construction expertise. If it had been left up to me, the roof would have been replaced over the old rotten fascia and then I would have been in big trouble. But both of them said, "No way. We'll do the fascia first, then the roofers can finish their job, then we will replace the gutters (hope they can be re-used)."

The cats were freaked out during the day, but after dark, when things had been pretty quiet for a while, they came padding into my computer room for comforting rubs and treats. I wish I could explain to them that this disruption is only temporary.

Dust galore.
