Sunday Morning

Got up this morning at the break of dawn to make a pot of coffee and then start cooking for today's after service potluck. This is the last Sunday for our current minister and most of us (including me) are unhappy to see him finish his time with us. Our settled minister is returning from her sabbatical.

Frank (the one who's departing) has given us a nice balance of worship and social justice, investigating the issues of love and connection and identity as well as pursuing the need for those feelings to be translated into actions of social justice, powered by knowledge and compassion.

Our current minister goes straight to the service aspect, forgetting that all service must spring from a grounding in basic principles. Such as respect for the worth and dignity of all persons; such as support for the web of all existence of which we are a part. From principles such as those we derive our urge to justice work, and the awareness of those principles keeps the justice work aligned with love and compassion, steering clear of the Scylla and Charybdis of pride and power.

Time to take my shower, put my potluck dish in the car, and mosey along to church.
