One reason to love southern Californis is the kind of weather we're having now. Temperatures during the day in the high 70's, brilliant sunshine, zephyr winds, just gorgeous. We spend as much time outside as possible on days like this (no longer having to sit inside behind a desk, working on a computer, telephone). The day itself is a blessing.

I did my 30 minutes on the treadmill (yay!) and had coffee and conversation with my housemate. (My husband, a former professor, had no concept of conversation, just pronouncements--which I was to obey). Truly a day to remember, not for anything spectacular, but just a lovely day.

Farmers' Market is on the agenda for today, then more weeding in the garden. I put in the last of the tomato plants yesterday (two Better Boy and one Roma) and discovered that the weeds were taking hold. Too bad vegetable seeds are not as robust as weed seeds. Time to do some weeding in the warm sunshine, with a cat for company. He talks nonstop while I'm out in back, no matter what I'm doing.

The spinach, kale, peas, tomatoes and beets are all doing very nicely. Strange to be growing a garden in the "dead" of winter. We've got greenery coming up everywhere, fruit trees blossoming, flowering cyclamen and succulents in the front yard.

I love southern California this time of year.
