Given yesterday's Supreme Court decision(s) on the Affordable Health Care Act [something close to universal coverage but preserving the private insurance market], I think the date will be one to remember. My friends, acquaintances, and relatives have been talking about nothing else.

For a country with a wealth of natural resources and a creative and energetic society, we have been remarkably cavalier about taking care of the sick, the poor, the unfortunate in our midst. We have left much of it up to private enterprise (and there are those who would like to see all of it privatized), and what a job they've made of it.

I'm hoping that the smoke and fire will die down, and that our political leaders will work at securing the common good, spreading the burden among us all. If we're not too stiff-necked and proud, we could look at what's been done in other countries for ideas.

Pay bills and cleaning house and running errands today, so that tomorrow I can be free to go to a concert in which a friend is performing (hey, there, Dan Gent!). I missed the last concert and I'm looking forward to this one.

I've downed the last of the coffee, and made this journal entry, so I guess I'm done procrastinating.

See you on the flip side.
