Am on the phone with her now. There's water in the ditches, but no standing water in her yard. It runs off the street, she says, down into the bayou. She's at the astounding, dizzy height of 15 feet where she lives.

The most aggravating part of the whole situation is that there's no electricity. She's charged up her cell phone by running the car, so she's in touch with the world beyond her doorstep.

Not much to do but read (when there's daylight) and stay at home and watch what's going on, if anything. She can hear trucks in the distance, so life is going on and electrified civilization will reach her eventually.

Boredom as an outcome of emergency. Who would have guessed?
