Earthquake and Hurricane
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

Just felt an earthquake a little while ago, here in the Los Angeles area. Not a sharp one, but soft and rolling. It rattled the doors and windows.

Checking the news, yesterday evening there was a 7.7 off the coast of western Canada, Queen Charlotte Islands to be more precise, followed shortly thereafter by several 5's. A magnitude 7.7, in case you're not from around here, is a powerful shaker.

This morning, what we had was a 3.8 right here in the L.A. area, centered at Newhall, right near the surface. Coincidence? Precursor to a big one?

And my thoughts go out to the people on the east coast also, battening down the hatches for a big blow. At least with a hurricane, there is some time to prepare. However, the damage can be just as enormous; if it's your house in harm's way, then comparisons are moot.

My hopes for your safety and a return to normal go out to you all.
