I keep thinking about the 2 million people who will have their unemployment benefits cut off at the end of this month.

How will they eat? Pay their rent? Pay for utilities? Heat? Clothing? Gas? Happy New Year!

And all the commercial establishments where business will fall off because those people aren't spending the money they used to have. They will lay off workers because business is down...and so it goes.

The Constitution specifically charges the House with the responsibility for matters financial. Boehner has abdicated his leadership; the House members have gone home. He expects the Senate and the President to solve the problem.

Boehner doesn't want to take any action that would jeopardize his Speakership, while people lose their safety net, while by default the entire economy is under threat. It's as though the House Republicans had a temper tantrum and went home.

I'm OK for now, but what about the people who are not OK? What can be done for them? Can the President issue some kind of emergency "fix"? No, because only the Legislature can allocate funds and set budgets.

I don't think the Founding Fathers ever envisioned a country run by self-centered, power grubbing, temperamental, ignorant juveniles.
