Highlights from my birthday bash, in no particular order:

• seeing many excellent friends

• Maria bringing beautiful dahlias

• Getting silly and making hippie hula hoops

• eating lamb, just for me

• Jenn sticking it out until nearly the bitter end

• my parents, my bro and sis-in-law, and my childhood neighbor, Grace (90!)

• watching the kids entertain themselves without mishap all day long

• my birthday cake, with Archie McPhee figurines: a girl in go-go boots, a motorcycle, and a guy peeing

• the way the guests flowed in and out of the day so perfectly

• giving away hula hoops to the girls who loved them

• listening to Linda play the piano, as she is wont to do

• dueling playlists with Tim

• homebrew, homebrew, homebrew

• good weather - supposed to thundershower, didn't do it!

• many nice gifties, mostly of the wine variety

• everyone getting home safely, or so we hope

• homemade absinthe - yeouch, that stings! A little drop'll do ya

• Starbucks card from Susan. She really knows how to brighten my day. And she loves me

• Roxane staying a really long time - she also hung in there! Brava, Rox!

• Maggie being a great dog

• Being grabbed and kissed and generally congratulated

• cleaning up the next morning before my hosts could wake up and do it

• not acting the fool with ANYONE all night. Several people have showered me with praise for keeping it in my pants.

• waking up without a hangover

• ribs, chicken, and hotdogs - yum

• just having friends around me

• getting nice card the next day from the Scotsman. Such an unexpected surprise

• Being sung to by my friends - they made up a lewd song called "Elsa" to the tune of Lola, and Tim played the guitar for it. WOW! I about cried

• people feeling comfortable partying on when this toddler had to crash at 10:30 (I'd been up since 6am)

To all who were there, to all who couldn't be there but were there in spirit, thanks for making my birthday so much better than even I could have anal-retentively planned it. It was truly spectacular and I felt great all day and into the next. You truly came through in every way. I love you all. And thanks to Glen, who called me from Iraq to make sure I was having a great day. : )
