This was one of the hardest days of my professional life. I'm so done in, I can't do anything but type this placeholder until I have processed a little more. But I will get it all out here, in as anonymous a fashion as possible. If that doesn't work, I'll have another G&T. Thanks K, for the timely provision.

Revisiting, a day later. I can't say much that wouldn't identify the people involved (the island is that small), but I had to deal with a very agitated student yesterday. I had to use physical restraint, then finally was able to hand the student off to an administrator. Student is young (remember I teach K-3), and very intelligent. After a drink around 5pm, I had worked out a new plan for the little person, and with parental permission, went to their home to announce the plan. Kid was WAY not happy for the first 5 minutes, but after that was able to listen to me. Mom hugged me, and small person apologized for the behavior yesterday as I was walking out the door.

We've started the new plan today, and I imagine it is I who will soon be offering to pay for K's adult beverage. Thanks to K for spelling me and being part of the solution.
