Memorial Day

David's family have decided to have a funeral this afternoon, with a memorial for the community to follow at 4pm. They've booked the Methodist Church, which seats about 200 people. Do they realize there will be a thousand people thronging to this shindig? Guess not.

There isn't much on the web or anything about David, mostly because it's still so new and so painful. I imagine there will be tributes aplenty in the near future.

For the briefest of introductions, you can see the school district website. Great man. Much missed.

I rode the school bus today because my car's in the shop (and let's face it, I'm a short-timer, and I think I should do some unorthodox things before I leave). I had some nice conversation with the high school and middle school kids on the way in. They are sad, thoughtful, and curious. They seem mostly curious about how this is all being handled, community-wide, in their schools, and by their peers and teachers. Entirely appropriate, when something like this likely has not ever happened to them in their comfortable, island lives.

I feel okay, sometimes a little lightheaded or nauseated. Could be the tons of calories I've been consuming in an effort to feel better. Eat your feelings - it works!

Thanks to all who have expressed sympathy. All of us here on The Rock will get through this in time. But I tell you, the next time I see David, he's got some 'splainin' to do.
