Tally of people who quit in my building and district last spring:

• principal - now principal of much larger school, off island
• vice principal - went back to teaching
• speech therapist - went to another district, off island
• school psychologist - took maternity leave, back .2 FTE
• school counselor - went to another district
• high-school science teacher - left to become a dentist
• director of student services - doing non-profit consulting

Casualties this year:

• school psychologist
• business manager (of the entire district)
• superintendent (fired)
• 4th grade teacher - native islander, going back to L.A.
• elementary vice principal
• student services secretary
• LAP teacher
• and me.

And I imagine we have some retiring who haven't announced yet.

Rats, say goodbye to your sinking ship. Is this how we became the Pirates (our high school mascot)? And who's doing the pillaging, we ask? Read the Beachcomber and see!

I love it here.
