Writers write.

That anyone would be overly interested in what I say here is anathema to me. This site is literary practice, personal celebration, the exploration of craft, the receptacle of verbal overflow. To consider it the definitive description of a life would be to imbue it with undeserved latitude and authority.

Perhaps I should have followed the lead of "Whaddya Know" from NPR, and written my own four disclaimers:

DISCLAIMER #1. Writers write. They may write fact, fiction, or fantasy; they may intertwine them all without prior warning to their readership. This is the prerogative of a writer.

DISCLAIMER #2. Take nothing, or everything, at face value. Reading is work.

DISCLAIMER #3. Revel in your own First Amendment rights, and I'll revel in mine: "Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech . . . " Nor shall lurkers.

DISCLAIMER #4. Recognize that people are complex, inconsistent, joyous, contradictory, earnest, whip-smart, stupid and worthy, all at the same time. This blog is not meant as an how-to manual for those looking to stop treading the wheel and hit Nirvana. Subtlety is to be courted, not discarded for the apparent safety of putting and keeping all things in their boxes. Safety comes from within, not from the assaults of an outside force, whatever it may be. Peace is never handed over; it is desired, sought after and actively created.

That, in its integrated glory, is all I have to say about that.

For now.
