A cup of tea, the bills, and NPR

I just this minute made a huge leap of faith that many others have made before me. Why I needed to avoid it this long is unclear. I guess I didn't want to admit the pervasive digitizing of my life. I enjoy paper and pen, I enjoy getting out the calculator and seeing the numbers fall gracefully down the column. I like sitting down with a cup of tea, the bills, and NPR.

But I can no longer hold out. Like Meg gives in to the mind of IT, I give in to electronic banking.

Don't get me wrong. I haven't been sitting here with quill and inkwell, scratching my check register into parchment. I have the regular paper bits and a lovely array of pens to choose from.

But I was sitting here in front of the computer, entering into my register those dozens of transactions I had neglected to enter as they occurred, and realized that the bank had done this work for me already.

Welcome to the new millenium, you dork, I thought.

Here I go: fully electronic finances. Take my hand as I jump. It looks to be a long jump. Wheeeee!
