I bought a Mac AirPort Express. Her name, I decided, is Ping, in keeping with the Steve Zissou/Life Aquatic theme I have going here at Port-au-Patois. I set it up in 3 minutes, and I'm on the password-protected connection right now.

Contrast this with the SMC modem that I had, the one that constantly required physical reconnection with my laptop in order to repair glitches. The one that required half-hour-long phone calls to Mumbai for customer service hand holding. The one that wouldn't work if I tried to set a password for it. Damn.

Mac is many things: sexy, sleek, frivolous, intuitive. Best of all, it is fully self-actualized and integrated. Big sigh of relief. I shan't do the Wandering Aftermarket Sashay again.
