The Great Blow of Aught Seven, part 2
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

It was still blowing hard last night, though officially the storm was over. This morning, I noticed that I had lost some things from my deck.

• my metal wind sculpture
• the cushions I made for my outdoor chairs (they were an experiment, so no real loss, because they didn't actually work well)
• two other hanging things - there are just empty hooks, and I can't remember what was hanging there.

The beads that my friend Rose strung for me are still out there, as are all 3 candle lanterns (one from PartyLights, two from IKEA). No furniture missing.

I sort of assumed the hanging stuff would be okay, because it survived the 100-mph winds of last year. I have learned now to stow my complacency and just take the stuff inside.

The cats desperately want to go outside, but without claws, I'm afraid they won't be able to hang on should a stray gust come along. They are ignorant; they have no idea that they don't have one of the tools they are supposed to have. Buck is suffering a bit of cabin fever, running up and down the hall now and then, jumping on Molly. I had to intervene one time because he was just being cruel, biting her neck and pinning her. (The vet assures me they don't have sex, but I think they do, when I'm not around.)

Anyhow, I guess I will go down in the yard to see if anything is down there. Otherwise, it went over the bulkhead and is floating somewhere around Chief Seattle's birthplace by now.
