I worked a job today that I had very mixed feelings about accepting. The client does not particularly like me, but I guess that happens. She is new to the country and to ASL, and finds reasons to tell my supervisor that she'd like another interpreter. He is not going to switch me without a substantial or plausible reason, so here I am again.

I made it through the assignment by being detached, neutral, and appropriately invisible. No extraneous comments. Clear identification of my attempts to clarify. Obvious deference to the Deaf client. I feel it was a successful day.

I can't in any way predict how the client will see this day. I just know that I was the utter professional.

And I made two hundred bucks. Oh, yeah, let's not forget that.
