My brother and his wife have a new puppy, named Skadi (sounds like Scotty, or in tighter translations, SKAW-thee with a soft th). It's the name of the Norse goddess for whom Scandinavia was named. She was the goddess of winter, sometimes called the snowshoe goddess, and she married several gods, among them Ulli, Odin and Njord, god of the sea.

Our Skadi sleeps ON her owners whenever they let her; on top of their heads or faces is her favorite place. She's a little too rambunctious for the older dog Thorvald to take, so he stays next door at my parents' house where it's quiet.
