I'm working in art class today. The students were assigned a self portrait, drawn while they looked in a mirror. The drawings were hung for everyone's commentary.

Each person stood up and introduced his or her drawing. Some were vividly representational, accurate and recognizable. Some were cartoonish and amateur. Those not in the groups mentioned were most like the one I might have drawn: awkward, simplistic, childlike, flat.

It took courage for these students to hang up these drawings.
