Scoutie's First Seder - The Before

I'm going to a Seder with the folks at YellowTail Records. If you're from Seattle, into the folk scene, or both, you'll recognize this as the record company that produces such acts as Uncle Bonsai, Hilary Field, and recently Christine Lavin.

For fifteen bucks a ticket, and a mostly kosher apple cake, my friend and I are eating the Seder dinner with the musicians and then we get priority seating for a song circle. The group emphasizes not to get hung up on the food, just come and have a good time.

This shiksa hasn't ever deliberately cooked anything remotely kosher, so thank goodness the YellowTail folks linked to many good recipes. The first one on the first link was for apple cake.

I'm making apple cake.

In fact, it will be done in 20 minutes. Who knows how it will turn out, unleavened as it is, but who cares? I'll have made the effort and that's what's important.

You try finding matzo flour in Tacoma. Yeah, a lot of Jews there. But I did, at Top Foods. Yay for their very tiny but adequate kosher section.

I'll report on the show after the weekend.

Enjoy your Passover, all!
