Grey day.

Today was a very wet, grey day. No massages were scheduled, and I wanted to go into town to set up a PO box, but then I looked outside. Uh huh. Not going to town on a motorcycle in this weather. If it were of dire importance, yes. But it’s not. And tomorrow’s forecast is for more rain.

I have no idea yet what to do with myself on days like this. I went from crazy commuting, school, and 24/7 internet access to a five-foot-by-eight-foot room perched in the trees. I’m not complaining; I’m noting that this feels like someone dropped me off in another country. It will just take some time to adjust.

There is some ennui as I get used to things. Of course I could be practicing that oboe. Of course I could be reading a book (I have, and I will continue, but I’m typing right now). Of course I could watch Pan’s Labyrinth. Of course I could engage in some “personal time”, but I just don’t know when people are downstairs in the kitchen, and my personal time is not exactly quiet.

Instead, I ate lunch, watched Forty-Year-Old Virgin, cleaned my room, went for a soak-and-read, and now I’m back in my Dreambox. There is a nap in my future.

I know this will not always be the way it is. Summer gets screamin’ busy around here, and rumor has it that I’ll be busy, too.

On a brighter note, I did get into my size-12 REI hiking shorts yesterday: still a bit tight at the waist, but not in the thighs. Could be water weight, but I’ll take it. When the weather clears, there will be hiking. I have the map of Moran State Park, and it’s not far from here.

Also brightening my day was the receipt of a postcard from Cajun. It’s a photo of a mosaic in Antioch, which he recently visited. My first cool postcard. It is tacked to the wall, the first of (I hope) many that will comprise my temporary décor.

Nap time.
