"You're Not Certified?!"

That's the question I've gotten twice in two days from other interpreters. We've be working together just since Monday, so that's pretty damn cool.

I'm not certified. I took interpreting 15 years ago. I was afraid. And actually, I wasn't ready. Now I think I'm close to ready.

And why shouldn't I be getting paid certified rates? If I can pass the test, my salary nearly doubles; it goes up by $20 an hour. Yes, TWENTY DOLLARS AN HOUR. That's not chump change.

I also just found out that there is a video relay service about 5 miles from my new place. This is a call center where Deaf and hearing folks can have phone conversation using a sign-language interpreter over video. The Deaf person videos in, talks to the hearing person, the interpreter voices, the hearing person responds, the interpreter signs, and back and forth it goes.

Also decent money, but I'm not sure how much.

Life is strange. But then, my fortune cookie today said, "Your situation will change for the better".

I didn't even add "in bed".
