My husband and I are taking on a project together. We are building a suspension bridge and (in the future) suspended walkways through the swamp area of our yard.

This is the area that was severely hit by Katrina and now has a lot less trees. It used to be wooded, it is not now. So, now that we have this "new" area of our yard to enjoy? we are going to build some walkways through it. The problem is that when it rains the area fills up with water....lots of water sometimes.

We are going to rent a two person auger, dig the holes for the support pilings and then build walkways suspended between the pilings. It should be interesting. The first stage of the project is a bridge across a ditch that goes through part of our yard, (the part that used to be wooded). We never had to cross the ditch before. In fact, after the storm when we were surveying the damage my husband got to one part of the yard and didn't even know we owned it.

I am more excited than I should be about this project. It is going to be hard work and challenging to engineer. BUT, for the first time in 18 months it is a project we are undertaking that is not in some way storm clean up or repair.

On a separate note....on Sunday I was reading the obits. There was a man who died last week and left behind his wife of 70!! years. That is amazing, but there was another death notice about a man who died (age 96) and listed in the survivors was his wife....of EIGHTY YEARS!!! Can you imagine being married to the same person for 80 years?
