me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

THE SHANGHAI MOON official publication date

Which is today, of course. This is an odd thing, pub dates. They actually mean nothing, except it's the date the book is allowed to be on sale, which most bookstores ignore by a couple of days anyhow. THE SHANGHAI MOON was spotted by a friend in a Barnes and Noble on Saturday, and of course it was on sale at Sunny's on Sunday. When I was a new writer I expected something to HAPPEN on my pub date. I don't anymore, yet it still gives me a certain amount of anxiety. Unlike opening night at the theater, when you know you'll get your reviews the next day, books get reviewed for months after their pub dates, and sales figures come in well after that, except for best-sellers. So it's a long slow process that sneaks up on you, this business of letting a piece of your heart go out into the world alone, and seeing whether people like it.
